My copy of this book arrived yesterday, and I shut out the world for the evening and read it through in one sitting. What can i say, other than this book is great! I very rarely laugh out loud at a book, however i did with this one. Geralt is a great character, with superhuman abilities but a very real ability to laugh at himself (which is refreshing in a genre full of heroes who take themselves far too seriously!) Dandilion is amusing and irritating in equal parts, Yennefer manages to be a rather annoying but surprisingly vulnerable, and the various monsters and fight scenes are well thought out and interesting. Its worth having a reasonable background in faery tales and fables (which I've luckily always enjoyed) as many of the monsters and fantastic beasts can be a little hard to figure out otherwise.

All in all, a great book in a genre that I'd generally stopped reading until recently due to it all being the same old story retold repeatedly. I'll definately be ordering blood of the elves when it is released - september is too far away!

I read this in about 4 days, which is fast for me. It's a very good book as far as modern fantasy writing goes. All the hype about moral ambiguity is, in my opinion, deserved and is actually pulled off quite nicely. Geralt almost comes off as a fantasy version of Riddick, but more amicable. The stories are interesting and, surprisingly, there is actually more dialogue and description here than overly-drawn-out combat scenes. The translation seemed very good with only a few strange moments, but then translation is a very difficult thing to do. I certainly hope more of these are translated into English and I wonder why it took so long in the first place.

I love this book.
I don't remember ever reading a book where, having got half-way through, I was disappointed as I knew it would eventually have to come to an end. As the other reviews suggest, the writing alone is excellent and the stories suck you in and are full of surprises. I felt the book maintained an excellent pace throughout and the main character and the world in which he lives grows more and more intriguing.
I'm just disgusted there isn't a another book from Sapkowski available in English.
Going to have to start learning Polish.
Excellent book!
